ECO-TOUR CHIN HILLS - 5 DAY TRIP

The CHIN HILLS are situated about 160km from BAGAN. There are many opportunities to get in touch with nature. Through hiking, visitors may observe and learn about nature. Such as pine forests, medicinal plants, wild orchids and rhododendrons trees. Bird watching for Nuthatches, Pheasants, Hornbills and Babblers. The experts say 287 species of birds and 77 types of butterfly and 59 different types of reptiles. The attractions are not only the unaltered forests but also the farmed hillsides and villages. Visitors can directly observe the breadth of Chin culture and lifestyle. The area called Natmataung (Mount Victoria) Wildlife Reserve National Park. The Mount Victoria is 3109m high in southern Chin State.

DAY 1 - BAGAN - MINDAT: Early morning drive to Bagan jetty. Cross Ayeyarwaddy River by boat and reach KYUNCHAUNG at the other side. Proceed by Jeep for 150km, about 8 hours drive. Continue to KAMMA (stop for tea break & visit the local market). On the way, many sand streams and tobacco plantations can be seen. After that 2 more hours drive arrive to the NAT SHRINE (spirits), which marks the beginning of the CHIN STATE. Along the way growing onion, potatoes, sesame and cotton. Proceed to TABYIN for lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon, take a coffee break at KANGYI village. The steep road goes up the Chin Hills to MINDAT, a former British hill station of the southern Chin State. Overnight in Mindat.

DAY 2 - MINDAT: Mindat is 1620m above the sea level and the majority of the people living there are Chin nationals. The second day start by jeep to across the Chi Stream and start trekking at MASHIYAW village to walk about 2 hours to KYADO village to explore the native village life. The footpath is very narrow and dangerous. The native are growing rice, corn, castor seeds and beans. Many women still have traditionally tattooed faces and wear the thick, striped cotton blankets draped over the body, and copper and bronze ornaments . Take lunch at the village. Natives smoke tobacco-pipes, some of the men are still wearing pure golden earrings, inherited from forefathers. Burial urns can be found under the slab near villages .To take the different way down to Chi stream and return as the same. Dinner & overnight in Mindat.

DAY 3 - MINDAT – KANPALET: Early morning drive down through the town, to see the women blow the flute by their noses. Continue to YAW Township, a pleasant agriculture village by the creek. A great chance to watch hornbills and beautiful pheasants along the forest road. Plenty of parrots joyful in the region of SAW village at the foot of the Chin Hill. Drive up to the steep road again to KANPALET, which is situated 1400m above sea level. On arrival there take a tea break at local cafe and continue to hotel.

DAY 4 - KANPALET - VICTORIA- KANPALET: Early morning drive to the forest camp (5 km) there stop the car and start trekking to Mt. Victoria summit. Walk and return takes about 5 hours. The surrounding views are panoramic and extraordinary from the summit. The rhododendrons trees and pine forests are full-grown at hill slopes at each side along the way. Return back and dinner at hotel.

DAY 5 - KANPALET- BAGAN: Drive back to Bagan about 7 hours from Kanpalet via Saw, a amazing town in a green valley background as misty horse shoe mountains. From there the road takes uphill and down through deep teak forests and the scenery became dry and dry. Working elephant camps are for a distance far off-road. If chance, capable to see working and carrying teak logs. Stop for lunch at KAZUNMA village. Proceed to CHAUK, a small town famous for oil fields. Cross the bridge over Ayeyarawaddy River and tea break at Chauk. Drive an hour to Bagan hotel.
